Expansion for Wrexham-based leader in vehicle diagnostic tools and automotive training
Maverick Diagnostics, based in Wrexham, has been a pioneer in the industry for over two decades.
During the pandemic, Managing Director Andy Brooke refocused the business from sales to service solutions, accelerating growth and winning new customers at home and abroad.
Following the launch of their Automotive Training Academy – offering a suite of IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) courses from levels one through four – and the industry-provoking Tesla-exclusive aftermarket tool, it has revealed plans to more than double their workforce and stay on top of technological advances as demand increases for technicians to work on electric and hybrid vehicle engines.
“According to IMI there is a massive need for more TechSafe technicians by 2030, around 90,000 in the UK alone”,
“We identified before the pandemic that this would be the trend and we were already running online training programs which continue to be very popular.
“The safety aspect is essential because if you are not properly trained on how to work on electric and hybrid vehicles, you cannot approach them, and the majority of garages are far from ready to do so. .
“As a result, we are getting more and more calls from the education side, and we will have to roll out more courses, so the coming years will continue to be incredibly busy on this side, including the upcoming sessions on the first responders and emergencies EV and hybrid training services.
Maverick Diagnostics also has a strong reputation in dealer diagnostics, offering a wide range of services from equipment sales and technical support to live and remote training and research and development.
Reflecting on Brexit and the challenges of Covid-19, Andy says they used the lockdown to realign the direction of the business and pivot to fill a gap in the market.
“From an IT and training perspective, it’s important to remember how different vehicles are today, they’re more technological, completely different from cars of the past.”
“We do things differently, we have over 100 contractors working with us in the UK and Europe and this will continue to grow.
“There are also plans for expansion here in North Wales, which will see us take on a further 10 staff in the Wrexham area, but these are only in the early stages.
“Our number one priority is to stay at the forefront of industry advancements, especially from a technology and software perspective, and to continue to push the boundaries.”
“We will be the first center to deliver the IMI Level 4 courses – essential for anyone working on electric vehicles – and build on the aftermarket diagnostic services we provide, from professional technicians to small workshops wanting our support. .
“Ultimately, it’s about moving from the traditional diagnostic offering to what is now a rapidly evolving field where you can’t afford to stand still.
“We’re here to help, and from feedback received from across the UK and beyond, there’s a budding appetite to get on board and embrace the electric and hybrid revolution.”
